Linda Sue Wood; is the alto singer for the group and also plays the piano for the older songs. Linda was born in Charleston where she lived until age 2 and then moved to Hernshaw where she has been now with her family for just over 48 years. Linda has been married for 29 of those to the lead singer of the group, Steve Wood, and they currently reside in Hernshaw. She is the mother of two children, Stephanie and Chris. She is also the grandmother to Jaxson Bowles and Joshua Wood. She graduated from East Bank High School with the class of 1973 and then went on to graduate from Kanawha County School of Practical nursing in 1976. After serving as an LPN for over 20 years, she has decided now it is time to stay home, but she couldn’t be out of the loop all together, so she started doing medical transcription. Linda started playing the piano for the original group, The Songsmen Quartet, back in the 70’s. Time made a lot of changes and the “filling in” became singing full time. When the group came back out in 2003, they went with music on mini-discs and Linda finally got to do what she was meant to do, have the ability to not only sing but also to minister to the audience. She still loves playing that piano though and of course being “mamaw” to the grand babies!! She is a member of Davis Creek Church of God where she is the piano player for the praise team!! |

Eldion Leon Wood; known by most as just simply “Dude” He is the 87 year old patriarch of the Songsmen and Linda. Dude is the father of both Steve and Randy, and this man has stood behind this group 100 % since its inception all those years ago. Dude was born and raised in Cabin Creek, WV and now currently resides in Chelyan, WV. He done our country proud in the Army, serving under General Patton in WWII. He then worked for 38 years in the WV Coal Mines to support his family. He is the father of eight children, 4 boys and 4 girls, the grandfather of 18 and the great-grandfather of 12. We are so blessed to have him around and he still loves to go to the sings when his health permits. When asked how he’s doing, he simply replies, “I’m still above the ground!” and we thank God for that. He still sings occasionally when he gets out with the group. His own unique style is one that will live on in the hearts of many who have been blessed by his music. He loves to get out and about, most of the time just talking about trains or the coal mines or sometimes even just his time in the U.S Army. His faith in God and love for his family will always be appreciated and may we strive to follow in those footsteps!
We Love you!!! |
